Director of Physical Plant
Black River Technical College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Physical Plant. This is a full-time, 12-month non-classified position. The Director of Physical Plant will report to the Vice President of Administration.
Position Description: The Director of Physical plant is responsible for overseeing plant maintenance activities associated with building, equipment, and grounds maintenance needs. This position is governed by department procedures and institution policy.
Primary (Essential) Duties:
The person filling this position will supervise a large skilled, semi-skilled, and/or supervisory staff by interviewing and recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, and evaluating performance of immediate subordinates. The person filling this position will coordinate maintenance work order requests, attend managerial staff meetings to establish policies, procedures, and long range plans, assist in the preparation of the maintenance department budget, and prepare, design, coordinate, and prepare periodic reports on maintenance activities, construction, and remodeling jobs. The Director of Physical plant will coordinate the work of employees and/or outside contractors including requisitioning of supplies and tools and maintaining inventory as needed and reviews contracted work before approving. The person filling this position will also provide in service training to employees on equipment and procedural change and conduct onsite inspections to ensure quality of work, determine maintenance requirements, and comply with safety regulations. The Director of Physical plant will serve as transportation supervisor and perform other related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the principles and methods of building, equipment, and grounds maintenance.
Knowledge of quality and costs of building materials and equipment.
Knowledge of inventory control techniques.
Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
Ability to oversee the work of maintenance personnel.
Ability to compile information into report form.
Ability to operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on various types of electrical and mechanical equipment following safety procedures.
Ability to conduct onsite inspections to determine compliance of work.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of specialized training in building trades technology, industrial maintenance or related field; plus five years of experience in plant maintenance activities or related area, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Other job related education and/ or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements.
