Please use the following resources to assist you in the transition to Google Apps. Some of this information is for faculty and staff, but students will benefit from it as well.
Google was very liberal with what it considered to be your contacts when it made the transition. As such you will have a lot of “extra” contacts under your Contacts section. The only contacts that should be here are your personal contacts. You can safely remove all of the BRTC faculty, staff, and students from here because those are available to you and are maintained by Computer Services.
To clean up your contacts sections
- Click on Contacts
- Select the contacts to delete
- Click More
- Click Delete Contacts.
The search capability of Gmail is very, very strong and is a much quicker option compared to the old Outlook searching/sorting methods. Basic searching (from, date, subject, etc.) is quickly available using the search options drop down accessible by clicking the little arrow on the end of your search bar.

Google Drive is BRTC’s cloud storage component. If you’ve ever used DropBox then you should be very familiar with what Drive can do.
Each user on our system has 35 GB of storage available. You can access all of it strictly from the web or you can use the Google Drive application to use it directly from your desktop. If your PC does not have the Google Drive program installed, please contact us.
On your mobile devices, we highly recommend that you install the free Google Drive app to have access to all of your Drive data regardless of where you are.
If you also install the free Google QuickOffice app you will be able to not only view Microsoft Office documents on your Google Drive, but you will be able to edit them as well.
